Magenta Hôtel Particulier

In transforming this landmarked, late 19th century building into offices, the challenge was to inject a contemporary twist while staying true to its architectural heritage. Built for an inventor and engineer, it boasts a façade that features a double-height expanse of glass and two ornate sculptures representing Science and Industry. Inside, a monumental staircase leads to offices adorned with finely detailed wall panelling and mouldings. The studio’s response was to conserve those original architectural elements while adopting a thoroughly modern approach. Walls were painted white, openings created between the different spaces, and red tunnel-like, rubber-clad corridors installed to either side of the grand entry lobby. A double-height space, endowed with a light-filled mezzanine, was conceived to be multi-functional, with tea corners and intimate alcoves that are perfect for welcoming outside guests, informal meetings or simply quiet moments.
