Hôtel Century Old Town
When working in historical contexts, the studio is eager to pay homage to the past, while transporting it to the present. This grand 19th-century building once housed an insurance company where Franz Kafka worked from 1908 to 1922. Original elements, such as the chandeliers and wall lights in the restaurant, were conserved. The geometric pattern of carpets in the corridors was inspired by a dish found in a local market and created in the Fifties by one of Czechia’s most famous 20th century designers, Jindřich Halabala. Further visual impact is provided by the dynamic Yves Klein blue walls, which contrast with the snug, soothing atmosphere of the guestrooms.
