Ana Moussinet spent her childhood immersed in art, architecture and interior design. Her parents met at the Fine Arts School in Belgrade and from an early age, she would accompany them to drawing classes. She went on to study in the United States and graduated in architecture from the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. Her multinational background has endowed her a heightened sensibility to other cultures, allowing her to bestow each project with a sense of place. Her architectural training has given her an aptitude for working with volumes and for relating an interior to its external context. For her, each commission is an opportunity to push boundaries and to question the status quo. “The ambition of each client is very important to me,” she says. “I need to feel they’re in search of something exceptional, if not unique.”
Studio
Founded in 2012 and located in Paris’s Marais district, the firm is adept at working on projects of different scale—from the design of a lamp to a 24-story residential development. It has created editions for Ligne Roset, Atelier Alain Ellouz and La Manufacture. It has developed an acknowledged expertise in the luxury hospitality sector, with commissions throughout Europe and the Middle East, and has contributed to numerous high-end office developments, including the Parisian headquarters of Goldman Sachs in collaboration with French architect, Dominique Perrault, and a historic building opposite the Louvre remodelled by Jean Nouvel to house the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain.
The studio creates spaces that are dynamic and versatile, where attention-to-detail is utmost, and rounded forms and curves are often counterbalanced by rigorous lines. The presence of art is a constant, as is a quest for sustainability. More than anything, it aims to conjure up a sense of wonder. To go beyond the functional in order to free the imagination.
Savoir-faire
Ana Moussinet brings to her projects not only an unmistakable French elegance, but also a deep-rooted savoir-faire. Working with the finest artisans, she embraces a distinctly bespoke approach, adapting it to the constraints of each commission. She favours natural materials, which are enhanced using age-old techniques. Marble is sculpted and fluted; wood is brushed, burnt or gouged. Creativity and innovation are also at the heart of her practice, as witnessed by the development of a novel spray-on chrome finish developed with craftsmen called ECHO by Ana Moussinet. As she says: “Design must accompany the changes in the world as it moves full speed ahead.”
